I talk to a lot of people who experience anxiety. Sometimes when I’m first meeting people who come to me for help, they aren’t sure or aware that the uncomfortable feeling they have come to know and not love is what is called anxiety. Anxiety has become a buzz word. People used to just worry or feel nervous or tense. Anxiety is all those things, but a little bit more.
We can be worried about starting a new job or the first day of school. We can feel nervous about public speaking or tense when we’re stuck in traffic or worry about how just any situation will turn out. These are expectable reactions to common experiences. Feeling fear is a human experience. Some people, by nature, tend to worry more. Others tend to worry very little. Some avoid situations that make them nervous. Others seek out thrills. Whatever your tendency, worry doesn’t have to dictate your day. Your mind is a powerful tool in going from anxiety to serenity.
Oftentimes, there can be the tendency to create scenarios in our mind that fuel worry and negativity. However, negative thoughts and images exist only within our mind. When life gets tough, our minds can go to all the “what ifs” and the worst possible scenarios. We can worry about events that ARE NOT REALITY, and act as if they are. At these times the best thing to do is to STOP AND THINK. Use your mind to get a new and improved alternative. You have the power to create a new possibility that is reflected into the image of what you want to see and experience. Create a new story. There most definitely is power in positive thinking. Use your mind to create positive images of the best possible outcomes.
You have a choice about what you choose to think. You have a choice to choose what you see in your mind’s eye. Think of yourself as the director of your life’s story. You create the movie, the story of your life, and then project it onto your life. You can spend time thinking thoughts that bring you down, and seeing yourself living in despair and worry and feeling miserable. Raise yourself up. Change your thoughts. Create positive images in your mind. They are just as real, and simply a much better choice.
Yes, I know life can be challenging. I also know that we can rise from whatever we are faced with. You can create thoughts of hope and faith and optimism with the same circumstances. Change how you see yourself and your life in an instance. Imagine that you will succeed. You will get that next best job or other opportunity. You will have an amazing day. You will get that phone call. You will be surrounded by love. If you are looking for opportunities, you’ll see them. If you’re looking for missed opportunities, you’ll see them too. If you imagine that the well has run dry, well then you’ll probably end up thirsty. If you imagine that life is wonderful, then it most likely will be.
We attract what we think.
Everything may not happen exactly as we imagine, but most of the time it’s even better than we could imagine. Just keep the faith. Do your part. Have patience. Keep moving forward step by step and day by day. Look for the abundance and blessings and opportunities that surround you. Count your blessings. They are there, and there you can find peace.
Let me know how this turns out. Give a try!
Peace and love to you in 2017.
